Job Summary: 

The Prepress Technician plays a key role in transforming client and designer files into high-quality, print-ready envelopes. Using graphic software, you will format, proof, and prepare text and images for printing—ensuring accuracy, color integrity, and adherence to specifications. This role requires strong attention to detail, proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, and a thorough understanding of prepress and offset printing processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and generate prepress proofs (digital or other formats) to match the appearance of the final printed product.
  • Proofread and perform quality control checks on text and images.
  • Use computers to arrange pages, adjust text size, and prepare files for print production.
  • Conduct preprint checks to ensure fonts, graphics, and images meet production requirements.
  • Operate and maintain laser plate-making equipment and other prepress tools.
  • Enter, store, and retrieve job information using computer-aided systems.
  • Maintain, adjust, and perform minor repairs on prepress equipment.
  • Operate presses to print proofs of plates and monitor quality output.
  • Select proper plate types based on press run lengths.
  • Inspect finished plates for defects and verify conformance to specifications.
  • Collaborate with Account Executives and clients to ensure files are approved, accurate, and ready for printing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve prepress issues to maintain workflow and meet deadlines.
  • Assist in print production and finishing as needed.
  • When the workload is light, assist other areas.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat) and Microsoft Word on Mac systems.
  • Strong understanding of digital file formats (PDF, TIFF, EPS) across Mac and PC platforms.
  • Knowledge of color management and how colors interact in offset printing.
  • Ability to output files to RIP on CTP systems and to digital press front ends.
  • Mechanical skills for basic repairs and maintenance of scanners, image setters, and related equipment.
  • Ability to identify subtle differences in color, including shades and brightness.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 55 lbs occasionally and perform tasks requiring mobility.
