The General Maintenance Mechanic reports to the General Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor and the Plant Operations Manager. The position is responsible for performing routine preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment across all Waubonsee Campuses. Additionally, the role includes performing basic electrical and plumbing maintenance tasks.
Responsibilities
The General Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks to ensure the proper functioning and upkeep of Waubonsee campuses. These responsibilities include:
Assisting general maintenance mechanics with HVAC preventative maintenance tasks, such as changing air filters, replacing belts, and greasing equipment as well as supporting other mechanical systems as needed.
Performing basic plumbing repairs including fixing sinks, toilets, urinals, and water fountains.
Conducting basic electrical repairs, such as replacing bulbs and ballasts, addressing faulty outlets or light switches, and performing routine maintenance.
Completing basic carpentry tasks including hanging bulletin boards or pictures, minor drywall repairs and painting and replacing damaged ceiling tiles as needed.
Maintaining cleanliness and organization in workrooms, warehouses, and storage areas.
Ordering necessary materials and supplies from approved vendor websites to complete tasks.
Provide assistance to General Maintenance Mechanics as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of two years of experience in a related maintenance field such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or general facilities maintenance.
Possession of a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Strong team player with the ability to work well with others.
Excellent customer service skills.
Physical ability to lift 80lbs occasionally.
Ability to work from ladders or scaffolds and lifts.
Effective, oral and written communication skills.
Ability to do frequent climbing, standing, crawling, and walking.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in using smartphones, tablets, desktop computers and other related devices to perform basic work order functions.
